10 Amazing Secret Scenic BBQ & Picnic Spots on the Gold Coast

Here are ten scenic and secluded parks and reserves on the Gold Coast away from the crowds you’ll find at many of the larger popular parks on the GC. All have electric facilities including BBQ, tables etc. Links are provided to check on current conditions.

Hinze Dam Picnic Parkland

You can enjoy a picnic and BBQ with a view out across Hinze dam at Picnic Parkland with other features including a playground, multi-use trails – walking, running, mountain biking and horse riding, boating (electric powered), canoeing, kayaking and rowing, sailing, fishing (catch and release only), dogs are allowed on leash (in designated areas). The adjacent Hinze Dam Visitor Centre has educational displays and a cafe. There is also picnic facilities at the nearby Pocket Park, Waterside Park, and the Western boat ramp.

Cedar Creek Falls

Access to this section is via Cedar Creek Falls Road. Near the start of the track are two large picnic areas surrounded by tall eucalypt forest. A picnic shelter with tables, toilets, and barbecues plus you can take the Ceder Creek Falls trail for a lovely scenic walk. If it’s too busy here, head to the nearby Witches Falls or Knoll Road picnic areas.

Botanical Gardens

At the Gold Coast Botanical Gardens you can explore the grounds admiring plants and flowers at the Sensory Garden, local plants in the Mangroves to Mountains walk, visit the native Butterfly Garden or smell the roses in the Rose Garden. There are several picnic tables around and two BBQ’s by the feature lake.

Apple Tree Park

Located at the top of the Springbrook range, Apple Tree Park features a new amenities building, barbecues and picnic tables and is also an access point for many of the amazing scenic walks in the Springbook area.

Bochow Park

The beautiful park features large open areas, scenic views, a small creek, playground, toilets, BBQ, picnic tables and shelter. It’s not far from Natural Bridge which adds a scenic walk for a nice outing.

Jabiru Island Park

Located off Oxley Drive, the island park features a playground, fishing platform, swimming enclosure, electric barbecues, sheltered picnic tables, large shade trees, toilets, and stunning water views. You can also take the short walk through Phil Hill Environmental Park.

Kropp Park

A small but beautiful park by the beach in Currumbin featuring playground, picnic and barbecue facilities. If its busy here, head to the nearby Alex Griffiths Park on the other side of Teenangum St.

Village Heart

Village Heart is a new park area with a host of features including seven hectares of open green space, with trees and umbrellas, picnic shelters plus a one-kilometre walking course.

Varsity Lakes Wetlands Reserve

There is a lovely walking track through the restored wetlands and facilities here include playground, barbecues, sheltered tables and picnic areas.

Jack Gordon Park

A very small park area by the Broadwater featuring shade trees, BBQ, sheltered table, and you can also take a beautiful stroll along the Broadwater and even throw a line in.
