Broadbeach is the Gold Coast suburb that does the heavy lifting when it comes to eating out, shopping and a big night without the Surfers Paradise crowds. Step off the G:Link tram at Broadbeach South and you’re a five minute walk from a casino resort, one of the region’s largest shopping centres and a patrolled beach, all connected by a tram line that means you genuinely don’t need a car here. It’s busier and more polished than most Gold Coast suburbs, built around Surf Parade’s restaurant strip, Pacific Fair’s endless retail and The Star’s casino floor, with Kurrawa Beach as the quieter counterpoint at the end of the street.

Who It Suits
Broadbeach works best for visitors who want everything within walking distance, or a single tram stop: restaurants, a casino, a major shopping centre and a patrolled beach. It suits couples and groups after a polished night out, families who want to combine Pacific Fair with a beach afternoon, and anyone staying on the Gold Coast without a car, the G:Link makes the rest of the coast easy to reach from here.
If you’re chasing a quieter stretch of sand or a more low-key local scene, Burleigh Heads or one of the canal suburbs further south might suit you better. Broadbeach is built for people who want their dining, shopping and entertainment close together and don’t mind sharing the footpath with a crowd.
Is It Worth It?
Yes. For most visitors, Broadbeach earns its place on the itinerary, whether as a base for the stay or a day trip from elsewhere on the coast. The combination of Pacific Fair, The Star, the Surf Parade dining strip and a patrolled beach within a short tram ride of each other is hard to match anywhere else on the Gold Coast. Just book ahead for dinner on weekends, the best tables on Surf Parade fill up fast, and during Blues on Broadbeach (14-17 May 2026) or the Groundwater Country Music Festival in June, expect the whole suburb to be busier than usual.

Things to Do in Broadbeach
The Star runs around the clock and is Broadbeach’s biggest single drawcard: a full casino floor, a run of bars and live shows, and an in-house dining scene that grew again in late 2025 with the opening of the five star Andaz hotel, taking the resort towards 1,200 rooms across its towers.
A short walk away, Pacific Fair is one of the largest shopping centres in the region, an easy place to lose half a day browsing big-name stores, casual eateries and a supermarket.
Directly across from Pacific Fair, Dracula’s Cabaret Restaurant is still going strong after 40 years on the Gold Coast, marking the milestone in 2025 with a new show, Lucid, alongside its long-running dinner and cabaret packages.
The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre sits right in the centre of Broadbeach, hosting regular exhibitions, live performances and shows.
At the heart of the Broadbeach CBD, Surf Parade runs from Federation Park in the north to Margaret Street in the south, lined end to end with cafes, restaurants and boutique stores. It’s one of the Gold Coast’s best streets for a meal, any time of day.
When you need to slow down, Broadbeach has several parks built for lazing the afternoon away with a book, a bit of family time or a barbecue at the on-site facilities.
Kurrawa Beach is the spot for swimming, beach sport or just stretching out on the sand. It’s patrolled, with lifeguards on duty; for current safety information and patrol times see beachsafe.org.au/../broadbeach.

Broadbeach hosts Blues on Broadbeach, one of Australia’s largest free music festivals, which marks its 25th anniversary from 14 to 17 May 2026 with a lineup of local and international artists. Country music fans get their turn in June with the Groundwater Country Music Festival.
