Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500, 23-25 October 2026, Surfers Paradise Street Circuit
Supercars battle for championship points on the 3km Surfers Paradise Street Circuit, a track built from the Esplanade, Main Beach Parade, Breaker Street, the Gold Coast Highway and Surfers Paradise Boulevard. It’s the single biggest disruption to Surfers Paradise traffic all year, and also the single biggest reason to be there.

New Year’s Eve Fireworks, 31 December 2026, city-wide
No single ticketed event here, just a genuinely excellent, free, multi-location fireworks spread. Surfers Paradise Beach gets dual displays (family show around 8pm, midnight show for the night owls), Broadwater Parklands in Southport does a 9pm family-friendly show with lawns and easy parking, and Kurrawa Park in Broadbeach, Coolangatta, Robina, Paradise Point and Coomera all run their own local shows. Southport’s Broadwater is the pick for families who want space to spread a picnic blanket without fighting for footpath real estate.

New to the calendar for 2027, this elite-format triathlon brings the professional T100 World Tour to the Broadwater for the first time, alongside age-group and community races. Gold Coast Triathlon, Early April Annually, Southport
The Pho3nix Gold Coast Triathlon (Luke Harrop Memorial) runs alongside a free, non-competitive kids’ triathlon, making the whole Fisherman’s Lawn precinct a genuinely good family weekend rather than just a spectator event. Cooly Rocks On, Early June Annually, Coolangatta
Around 900 classic cars, hot rods and kustom kulture lowbrow art transform Coolangatta into a five-day time capsule of rockabilly, swing and vintage fashion. The 2026 edition ran 3-7 June and was almost entirely free to attend, one of the best-value spectacles anywhere on the calendar.
ASICS Gold Coast Marathon, Early July Annually, Southport to Coolangatta
A World Athletics Label Road Race and one of the most prestigious marathons in the world, drawing around 25,000 competitors across eight events from the full marathon down to a 2km Junior Dash. The 2026 edition ran 4-5 July, with the half marathon on the Saturday and the marathon on Sunday. Expect a similar first-weekend-of-July slot in 2027.

How Major Events Affect Your Trip
A major event weekend on the Gold Coast isn’t just a bigger crowd at one venue, it reshapes accommodation rates, transport patterns and road access across entire precincts, sometimes for days either side of the event itself. Here’s what actually changes.
Accommodation
Rates around Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach can jump noticeably during the Gold Coast 500, the Pacific Airshow and the Magic Millions Carnival, and rooms in those precincts sell out weeks ahead. If you’re set on staying close to the action, book as soon as dates are confirmed, particularly for Supercars weekend, when Surfers Paradise and Main Beach hotels are effectively trackside. If proximity isn’t essential, staying in Broadbeach, Burleigh Heads or Palm Beach and using the G:link light rail or a short drive gets you the event without the surge pricing. Transport and Traffic
The Gold Coast 500 is the big one: the Surfers Paradise Street Circuit closes major roads including the Esplanade, Main Beach Parade, Breaker Street and sections of the Gold Coast Highway for the better part of a week either side of race weekend, so if you’re driving through Surfers Paradise or Main Beach in the lead-up to or during late October, build in extra time or avoid the area altogether. The Pacific Airshow similarly closes beachfront roads around Surfers Paradise for viewing safety. For both, and for SeaFire, NYE fireworks and any event with beachfront crowds, the G:link light rail is consistently the better call than driving; parking around Cavill Avenue and the Esplanade evaporates fast on event nights, while the tram keeps running. The Gold Coast Marathon closes Southport-to-Coolangatta coastal roads on race morning, which is worth knowing if you’re trying to get south early on the first Sunday of July.
