Broadbeach’s beach is the most central and fully serviced stretch on the Gold Coast. It’s a long, patrolled run of sand backed by extensive foreshore parklands, which is backed by a busy dining and shopping precinct, and the city’s main casino and entertainment hub. The beach suits families, swimmers, and people who want an active beach day with plenty of options around them.

The Beach
Broadbeach runs along the beachfront from Pratten Park in the south to John Edgerton Park in the north, with the Kurrawa section extending a further 1.5 kilometres south. The beach is backed by a wide reserve of manicured parkland that includes grassy fields, shaded seating, viewing platforms, and plenty of space to spread out. The ocean here is moderately hazardous, so always swim between the red and yellow flags where the lifeguards can see you.
In summer, the beach becomes a hub for families, swimmers, and surfers, with the Kurrawa and Broadbeach Surf Life Saving Clubs running year-round events and patrols. The sand is backed by residential and commercial towers that give it a distinctly cosmopolitan feel, quite different from the quieter stretches further north or south.
Amenities and Facilities
Broadbeach is one of the Gold Coast’s most fully serviced beaches. Public toilets, accessible bathrooms, showers, shaded BBQ facilities, and picnic tables are dotted throughout the foreshore parklands. There’s a playground and fitness equipment along the reserve, and a large viewing platform on the esplanade with wide views of the Coral Sea.
The whole beachfront is wheelchair accessible. Matting and platforms provide beach access, and Pratten Park has a dedicated accessible changing facility with an adjustable height change table, ceiling tracking hoist, and shower.
Dogs are generally allowed on the beach on a leash, though rules around the flagged swimming areas are strict. The Kurrawa section has an off-leash dog area. Check with the City of Gold Coast for current rules if you’re bringing a dog, as an expanded off-leash trial from 2025 is still being assessed.
Parking
The Kurrawa Surf Life Saving Club car park is the largest and most popular option. On-street parking is available close to the esplanade from around $2 per hour. Broadbeach falls within the Central Traffic Area, so between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday, free and metered spots are limited to three hours. Accessible parking is available on Old Burleigh Road, Queensland Avenue, Charles Avenue, and Gold Coast Service Road.
The Broadbeach South G:Link station is about 500 metres from the beach, with direct connections to Pacific Fair Shopping Centre and the broader light rail network.
Surf Safety
Broadbeach is patrolled by Kurrawa and Broadbeach Surf Life Saving Clubs, which operate five lifeguard towers along the beach. Lifesavers patrol September to May, from 8am to 5pm on standard days and 7am to 6pm during the Christmas holiday season.
Always swim between the flagged areas. Check BeachSafe for current conditions and hazard ratings before you visit. For patrol hours and club information, see Kurrawa SLSC or Broadbeach SLSC.
Nearby
The Star Gold Coast is right on the beachfront with eight restaurants, five bars, and 24-hour gaming. Pacific Fair Shopping Centre is directly across the road with over 400 stores, local and international brands, and an open-air dining precinct. Oracle Boulevard has espresso bars and modern shops, while Surf Parade is lined with cafes and restaurants and is one of the Gold Coast’s most consistent dining streets.
Cascade Gardens is a quiet park in the heart of Broadbeach if you want green space away from the beach. Dracula’s has run burlesque shows and comedy nights here for over 30 years. If you’re visiting in May, Blues on Broadbeach brings over 120 artists across eight stages, with free live music throughout the precinct.

Getting There
By car, Broadbeach is on the central Gold Coast, signposted from the M1 and Gold Coast Highway. Head for the Kurrawa car park or on-street parking along the esplanade. Weekends and school holidays fill up quickly, so arriving before 9am helps.
By public transport, the G:Link tram to Broadbeach South station puts you about 500 metres from the sand, with easy walking access to the beach, Pacific Fair, and the Broadbeach dining precinct.
